Green Initiatives

Clean Campus

SRM Trichy College of Nursing actively integrates eco-friendly practices and sustainability education into its campus culture. Students, faculty, and staff collectively participate in maintaining a green and clean environment. Through initiatives such as the Swachh Bharat Mission programs, students are educated about the importance of hygiene, environmental responsibility, and their role in sustaining a clean campus. The institution consistently ensures cleanliness and environmental care within the college premises as well as in the surrounding campus areas.

Waste Collection, Segregation and Processing

SRM Trichy College of Nursing actively addresses the environmental challenges posed by non-degradable waste through the implementation of a strict waste segregation system. Segregated waste is regularly sent to authorized recycling facilities, supporting sustainable waste management and promoting a circular economy. In addition, routine cleaning of campus roads helps maintain a dust-free and hygienic environment, thereby enhancing the overall cleanliness and sustainability of the campus.

Ban on Single Use Plastics

SRM Trichy College of Nursing promotes a plastic-free campus by prohibiting the use of single-use plastic covers and plastic water bottles within the institution. To support this initiative, awareness programs are conducted regularly for both students and staff. The college encourages the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as cloth bags instead of polythene covers and promotes reusable water bottles in place of single-use plastics, thereby fostering environmental responsibility and sustainable practices on campus.

Green Cover And Landscaping

SRM Trichy College of Nursing promotes a green campus initiative aimed at creating a sustainable and climate-friendly environment. The institution supports sustainability through the use of renewable energy practices, energy-efficient measures, recycling, composting, and eco-friendly landscaping. A smart irrigation system that utilizes sensors and weather data helps optimize watering schedules, conserving water while maintaining healthy campus greenery. With nearly 425 trees across the campus, the institution reflects a strong commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development.

Use of Solar Energy And Use of Led Bulbs

SRM Trichy College of Nursing has developed a time-bound institutional plan to promote energy conservation by installing a solar power system on the rooftop of the college building. This initiative enables the institution to effectively utilize renewable energy for its power requirements. Energy-efficient lighting, including CFL and LED bulbs, is widely used across the campus to reduce electricity consumption. These measures not only lower energy costs but also support the institution’s commitment to sustainability and self-reliance. Additionally, street lights within the campus are powered by renewable energy sources, further contributing to reduced energy consumption and a greener campus environment.

Restricted Vehicle Entry And Use of E-Vehicle Within Campus

Students’ vehicles are not allowed inside the campus and must be parked in the designated parking area near the entrance. This area is supervised by security personnel to ensure that no vehicles enter the academic premises. The policy helps maintain a pollution-free and eco-friendly campus environment while also strengthening campus safety and security. Additionally, hostel students are encouraged to use e-vehicles for commuting to their classes within the campus.

Processing of Food Waste And Bio-Gas Generation

SRM Trichy College of Nursing has established a biogas plant on campus to support sustainable waste management and energy conservation. The plant utilizes night soil collected from the hostel and vegetable waste from the canteen to generate biogas. Through this initiative, energy equivalent to about 58 kg of LPG is saved every month, amounting to approximately 696 kg of LPG annually. The biogas produced is used for cooking in the hostel kitchen, while also helping in effective waste recycling and reducing methane emissions, thereby contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable campus environment.

Rain Water Harvesting

SRM Trichy College of Nursing has implemented a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system across the campus. The system includes strategically placed collection points such as rooftops and designated catchment areas where rainwater is collected and stored for future use. This initiative helps reduce dependence on external water sources while effectively utilizing a natural and sustainable supply of water, thereby promoting responsible water conservation on campus.

Water Monitoring And Wastewater Treatment

SRM Trichy College of Nursing is equipped with advanced facilities that support effective water conservation and management. The campus has a Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant along with UV treatment systems to ensure that water quality meets high standards for various institutional uses. In addition, sewage treatment plants are installed to treat wastewater generated from the college and hostels. The treated water is reused for flushing through a dual-pipe system, promoting efficient water recycling and sustainable resource management across the campus.

Pedestrian Friendly Pathways

Since students’ vehicles are not permitted inside the campus, a well-planned pedestrian-friendly pathway has been constructed from the entrance to the main college block. This systematic walkway ensures safe and comfortable movement for both students and staff, encouraging walking while also supporting a clean and eco-friendly campus environment.
